Writing to Change the World 2009-2012-- a multi-media, year-long program at Isaac Dickson Elementary school in which 5th grade students choose local or global issues to explore. They use writing and technology to publish their explorations and ideas about how to make change on a local and global level. Check out the MAIN-FM radio essays and 2011's culminating event, TEDx Youth at Isaac Dickson.
Collaboration with Asheville Wordslam and D Street Studios
In Spring of 2011, AWITS writers Tamiko Ambrose Murray and Janet Hurley worked with Randolph Learning Center students to write and record poetry and prepare for performance at the Asheville Wordslam at the Altamont Theater. In collaboration with Ben Gradison of D Street Studios, a musical CD compilation was published and distributed to the students and staff.
